Can I make PetCakes in a conventional oven if I don't have a microwave?

Yes, but NOT with our PetCakes plastic pan.

Follow the directions for mixing and add one egg. Pour into a small oven safe pan that has been sprayed with a non-stick coating (muffin tins work best). Cook at 350 for about 20 minutes. Cooking time can vary with different pans. Do not overcook.

How long will PetCakes last?

After cooling completely (about 15 minutes), store any leftovers in a baggy or sealed container in the refrigerator for a week or in the freezer for up to 2 weeks. The treats must not have any heat coming from them and must be completely cooled while sitting on the counter BEFORE they go into refrigeration or they will not last as long and will be soggy.

What can I substitute for the peanut butter?

Canned pumpkin, yogurt, honey, & pureed carrots, green beans or sweet potatoes ( think baby food versions with no salt or sugars).

What else can I use to frost my PetCakes?

You can use creamy peanut butter, canned pumpkin, low fat cream cheese, yogurt or any combination of the previous ingredients. For example, combine cream cheese and canned pumpkin or yogurt and creamy peanut butter to get a nice smooth consistency for your frosting.

What if I don't have a non-stick spray?

Use butter or any oil and apply to the pan with a paper towel.

What if I don't have anything in my pantry to add?

PetCakes was created to be simple and to “just add water" to the mix. It will work with just water. Adding the extra ingredient adds to the fun factor and allows pet parents to customize their treats to their pets' tastes.

What if the frosting is hard?

It is still usable, but you must break up all the hard bits before adding the water. The frosting is 100% dehydrated yogurt and over time will harden, but is not outdated. It should be the consistency of powdered sugar.

What if the mix is too thick to pour?

Just add a little more water and stir each time until the consistency resembles a thick pancake batter.

What if the mix is too thin and watery?

Don't worry, just put the mix into the refrigerator and it will eventually thicken (approximately 10-20 minutes depending on how watery the batter is).

What the best way to mix all the ingredients?

Use a 2-cup measuring cup with a spout instead of a bowl. Pour the water into the measuring cup first, add the mix and 1 tablespoon of suggested ingredient into cup. Then stir with a fork to prevent clumping. Pour the pancake-like batter into the pans using the spout.

General

What is Carob?

Carob is a dog-friendly substitute for chocolate. With all the same great sweet richness that makes chocolate a delight to eat, carob is made from the bean pods of the carob tree. It is 100% natural and 100% healthy for dogs and even gives them some pretty great health benefits.

What is the shelf life?

In general, you have a year from the date of purchase. Every item is shipped with a “Best By Date" sticker. However, if you keep the mix stored in a cool, dry environment, they will last much longer.

Where are PetCakes made?

PetCakes are all made in the USA. Our patented pans are created in Wisconsin and our healthy mixes are bagged and blended in Illinois. The finished product is fulfilled and shipped from Cincinnati, Ohio.
